Disclosed is a method for the determination of the level of Epidermal Growth Factor receptor (EGFR) expression in a fixed paraffin embedded tissue sample comprising, deprarfinising the tissue sample, isolating the mRNA from the sample in the presence of a chaotropic agent, subjecting the mRNA to amplification using oligonucleotide primers that hybridise under stringent conditions to a region of the EGFR gene to obtain an amplified sample then determining the quantity of the EGFR mRNA compared to an internal control gene, which can be beta-actin.
