CERAMIC CATALYST BODY

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a ceramic catalyst body which enables an exhaust gas to easily flow to the outer peripheral part of a ceramic carrier and to quickly activate a catalyst in the entire ceramic carrier.

SOLUTION: The ceramic catalyst body 1 is installed in a widened diameter part 31 where flow diameter is more widened than in an upstream side in an exhaust gas tube 3 for leading an exhaust gas of an engine. The ceramic catalyst body 1 is obtained by depositing a catalyst on a honeycomb ceramic carrier 11 having a large number of cells 13 surrounded with cell walls 12. The ceramic carrier 11 comprises a center part 21 which is an inner side region than an upstream exhaust gas pipe tube 32 and an outer peripheral part 22 installed in the periphery of the center part 21 in the case where the upstream exhaust gas pipe 32 installed immediately above the widened diameter part 31 of the exhaust gas tube 3 is projected in the axial direction of the ceramic carrier 11. The opening ratio of the outer peripheral part 22 is higher than that of the center part 21 and the water absorption ratio of the outer peripheral part 22 is higher than that of the center part 21.
