PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To prevent a user from turning off a video display device with a remote controller before a picture appears after the video display device is turned on. SOLUTION: The video display device includes a power-on detecting means of detecting rising of a source voltage, a timer counter which outputs a counting continuation signal indicating that a predetermined time does not lapse yet until the predetermined time lapses after the rise of the source voltage is detected, a video defeat pulse generating means which is a pulse generating means and outputs a pulse signal having a level Low while the timer counter outputs the counting continuation signal, a remote controller signal receiving means of receiving a remote controller signal, a remote controller signal decision means of deciding control information of the remote controller signal, and a remote controller signal discarding means of discarding a power source control signal when the pulse signal has the level Low and the control information of the remote controller signal decided by the remote controller signal decision means is the power source control signal.
