PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enable all packets transferred in a layer 2 switch to pass through a single redundant path by using a switching LSI to be used for the general-purpose layer 2 switch. SOLUTION: The layer 2 switch assigns different virtual LANs (each having different VID) to terminal ports 4-1 to 4-n and redundant path ports 5Eo, 5Ei for a switching LSI 2. An internal port 21 is set on a VLAN tag port (Tagged tag port) for transmitting/receiving packets of all the virtual LANs. A control unit 3 is connected to the internal port 21. If the VID of a packet transmitted from the internal port 21 is one for the terminal ports, the control unit 3 rewrites the VID into one for the redundant path ports and returns it.
