<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pattern recognition device for performing accurate pattern recognition by extracting features effective for identification from patterns. <P>SOLUTION: A face image recognition device comprises a face input part, a kernel orthogonal conversion data storage part, a kernel orthogonal conversion part, an input partial space generating part, a dictionary partial space storage part, a partial space similarity calculating part, and a face determining part.
