PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an imaging apparatus for calculating the amount of dark current easily with high precision, and to provide its control method. SOLUTION: In comparators 207, 208, 209, 210, judgement values Th1, Th2, Th3, Th4 set at registers 203, 204, 205, 206, which are provided correspondingly to the comparators, are compared with an objective pixel output. In this case, there is a relation of Th1<Th2<Th3<Th4 between the judgment values Th1-Th4. The Th1-Th4 are set at each register 203-206 before photography, and each enumerative counter 211, 212, 213, 214 is connected respectively to post-stages of the comparators 207-210 so that the number of pixels which exceeds each judgement value Th1, Th2, Th3, Th4 in the arithmetic region 503 is counted and stored. Each output signal of the enumerative counters 211-214 is readable and the amount of dark current can be calculated by using the output signals of the enumerative counters 211-214.
