Disclosed is an alkylation composition useful for detoxifying an inorganic arsenic or the like. Also disclosed is a safe and highly efficient detoxification method utilizing the composition. Specifically disclosed is an alkylation composition characterized by containing an organic metal complex having a cobalt-carbon bond. Also specifically disclosed is a detoxification method which is characterized in that a harmful compound containing at least one element selected from arsenic, antimony and selenium is detoxified through alkylation.
