PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an electric contact for a vacuum valve which is superior in joining property with an electrode rod, and which is provided with low surge characteristics, cutoff performance, and withstand voltage performance in combination, and its manufacturing method, and an electrode for the vacuum valve, the vacuum valve, and a vacuum breaker provided with this electric contact. SOLUTION: A base material to form a contact face is formed by one that contains conductive metal and low-melting point metal to be melted and vaporized in current cutoff, and its surface is covered by a metal covered layer composed of a metal which retains a solid state without melting in current cutoff. By installing the metal covered layer, invasion of the low melting point metal into a joining interface in joining the electric contact with the electrode rod can be inhibited, and generation of joint defect and peeling-off can be prevented. Moreover, since the low melting point metal is prevented from being vaporized from a part except the contact face, low surge characteristics, the cutoff performance, and the withstand voltage performance can be kept superior.
