PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an actuator that is constructed so as not to twist when it is curved. SOLUTION: An axis of the actuator extends in a symmetry plane and the axis can be curved in the symmetry plane. The actuator includes an elastically deformable cylindrical body 1 having a chamber 6 capable of receiving working fluid, a filler pipe 5 for filling the working fluid into the chamber 6 or discharging the same from the chamber 6, extension restricting wire rods 3 extending in the axial direction and secured to the cylindrical body 1 so as to restrict axial extension of a curved inner portion of the cylindrical body 1, and expansion restricting wire materials 2a, 2b surrounding the chamber 6 for restricting lateral expansion of the cylindrical body 1 and arranged in a substantially symmetrical fashion. The expansion restricting wire materials 2a, 2b are made of a pair of spiral wire rods that are substantially symmetrical with respect to each other and extend in directions reverse to each other, a plurality of annular wire rods spacedly arranged in the axial direction or a previously braided wire material.
