<p><P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image forming apparatus printing a document with a ground pattern with a color density desired by a user. <P>SOLUTION: A printer driver compares a total density of the dot area rate of a document and the density of a previously set background pattern with a density designated by a user, and determines that the total density is within a density range designated by the user (S15). If it is within the density range, document data are transmitted to the printer driver and the background pattern and printed (S16, S17). If it is out of the density range set in S15, a reducing rate is calculated, and it is determined whether a calculated value is within a reducing range set by the user (S19). If the reducing rate calculated in S18 is within a reducing range set by the user, the processing proceeds to S16.
