PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an image reading apparatus which achieves reduction in time taken from job start to reading start thereby achieving reduction in time taken to reading completion. SOLUTION: The image reading apparatus is provided with: a CCD 208 for reading an image on an irradiated original: and a CIS 308 which is disposed downstream of the CCD 208 in an original feeding direction and reads an image on the irradiated original. By acquiring white shading correction data for the CIS 308 prior to acquiring white shading correction data for the CCD 208, the time taken from the job start to the reading start is reduced.
