A settling judgment method for a position control device and a position control device are provided to maintain operations such as read/write operations even under low-frequency vibration by extending a margin for settling judgment and positioning accuracy. A settling judgment method for a position control device capable of controlling a position of an object according to a target position and a position error, the settling judgment method comprises the steps of: computing the position error for each sample; computing a first judgment from the position error for each sample; judging if the number of samples whose first judgment value is less than a first slice value, reach a first judgment sample number; computing a second judgment from added position errors of plural samples for each sample; judging if the number of samples whose second judgment value is less than a second slice value, reach a second judgment sample number; and outputting AND of the results of the first and the second judgments as a settling judgment result.
