An LCD(Liquid Crystal Display) is provided to omit thin film transistors so as to simplify a manufacturing process, reduce the manufacturing cost and achieve high luminance without the thin film transistors. An LCD includes an upper substrate(80) on which a common electrode(82) is formed, a lower substrate(90) on which a pixel electrode(92) is formed, and a liquid crystal layer interposed between the common electrode of the upper substrate and the pixel electrode of the lower substrate. The liquid crystal layer has cholesteric liquid crystal(95) as a host and has dichromic dye(97) absorbing red, green and blue wavelength bands as a guest. The liquid crystal layer is changed to a focal conic structure according to a voltage difference between the common electrode and the pixel electrode and maintains the focal conic structure for a predetermined delay time even after power supply is cut to transmit light. |
