Engine system and fuel vapour purging system with cylinder deactivation

A vapour recovery control system for an engine comprises a vapour recovery system, a control valve 168 and a controller 12. The vapour recovery system is coupled to the engine and delivers purge vapour to a first set of cylinders. The control valve 168 is located between the first set of cylinders and the vapour recovery system. The controller 12 actuates the control valve 168 in response to a purge signal, operates the first set of cylinders to combust induced air/purge vapour and operates the second set of cylinders to induct air without injected fuel. The controller 12 may also adjust fuel quantities injected into the first set of cylinders, based on readings obtained from an air-fuel sensor, to maintain idle speed and desired air-fuel ratios. The controller 12 may further operate the second set of cylinders to induct air without injected fuel or purge vapours.
