A method of modernizing a lift installation is provided to enhance the transport performance by installing a control unit communicating with a second driver with a low cost. A method of modernizing a lift installation with a first elevator(30) moving at a shaft(20) by a first driver includes installing at least one second driver(42) without changing a first driver(32), installing at least one second elevator(40) at the shaft, connecting the second driver to the second elevator, and installing a control unit(52) to control the first driver and the second driver. The second elevator is installed so that the first elevator and the second elevator are guided in a guide rail(34) of the first elevator. The control unit is constructed so that the first elevator and the second elevator move separately from each other. The control unit controls the first elevator and the second elevator to move to scheduled floors respectively.
