A microtome has a lever arrangement (10) comprising a manually deflectable first lever (11) mounted to be rotatable about a first axis and a second lever (12) mounted to be rotatable about a second axis (14) substantially parallel to the first axis to cause advance of a specimen holder of the microtome. One lever (11) has two guidance surfaces (17, 18) and the other lever (12) comprises guidance means (20) so co-operable with the guidance surfaces that deflection of the first lever (11) in a first direction (23) deflects the second lever (12) in a target direction (25) and deflection of the first lever (11) in a second direction (24) opposite to the first direction (23) likewise deflects the second lever (12) in the target direction (25), whereby advance of the specimen holder in the same direction is achieved by deflection of the first lever in either one of the opposite directions (23, 24). |
