A text input device is provided to allow a user to input one or more formats at a time by including a set of input units. Two input units(10) are disposed on an input area of a base and allow a directional input, which selects one of a plurality of directional indication positions radially spaced apart based on a reference position in the input area, to be performed by two or more stages at each directional indication position. A directional input sensing unit(51) senses whether or not the directional input and a multi-stage input is performed. A controller(60) discriminately inputs the first character repeatedly assigned to a corresponding directional indication position, according to the directional indication position on which the directional input has been performed, and according to whether or not a multi-stage input has been performed. |
