A PC equipped with a portable CMOS(Complementary Metal Oxide Semiconductor) device is provided to enable a user to use the PC with desired hardware configuration, maximize security, and form a user environment in other PCs having the same hardware configuration by enabling the user to separate the CMOS installed in the PC. A PC interface(110) communicates data with the CMOS device(200) by control of a south bridge(108) when the CMOS device is installed or separated. The CMOS device includes a CMOS interface(202) communicating the data with the PC interface, a CMOS memory(206), a memory controller(204) controlling the CMOS memory, a battery(208) supplying power to the CMOS memory, and a microprocessor(210). The microprocessor controls communication between the PC interface and the CMOS interface, and controls the memory controller. The PC and CMOS interface includes at least one of a USB(Universal Serial Bus) or I2C(Inter IC) interface.
