An optical inputting apparatus and a mobile terminal having the same are provided to reduce a volume of the optical inputting apparatus by inputting information through an image processing by including an image sensor and a lens. An optical inputting apparatus includes a cover, a light source unit, an image sensor, and a control unit. The cover includes a light-transmittable unit(11). The light is transmitted through the light-transmittable unit. The light source unit emits the light to the light-transmittable unit. The image sensor generates a photographed image by photographing the cover including the light-transmittable unit in a lower part of the cover. The control unit allows information corresponding to a position of a photographic subject by comparing a reference image and the photographed image of the cover. The light-transmittable unit is composed of slits(11a,11b,11c,11d,11e,11f,11g,11h) formed in the cover. A transmissive material is inserted into the slit. The transmissive material allows the light to be transmitted.
