OPTICAL DISK DRIVE AND CONTROL METHOD THEREOF

An optical disk drive and a control method thereof are provided to perform layer jump on an off-centered disc having vibration component by detecting a point where relative speed between an optical disk and a pickup module on an optical axis is zero. An optical disk drive comprises a pickup module and a servo control unit. The pickup module records/reproduces/erases data by projecting laser on the surface of each layer of an optical disk. The servo control unit outputs a focus driving signal for focus servo control of the pickup module. A control method of the optical disk drive includes the steps of: rotating the optical disc; a point where relative speed between the optical disk and the pickup module on an optical axis is 0; performing layer jump, considering bias of the optical disc, in the vicinity of the detected point during rotation of the optical disc.
