An OTA(Over The Air) information service device using a text message and a method thereof are provided to transmit information on OTA to an external apparatus which a user uses, through a text message, thereby more efficiently offering the information on the OTA to the user. A broadcasting signal receiver receives a broadcasting signal(S710). A controller decides whether OTA information exists from the received broadcasting signal(S720). If so, the controller generates a text message for the OTA information based on the OTA information(S730). The controller reads a contact number from a contact number list stored in a storage(S740). The controller transmits the text message for the OTA information to an external apparatus corresponding to the contact number(S750).
