An electrode assembly, and an electrochemical cell containing the electrode assembly are provided to prevent the internal shortage due to the shrinkage of a separator at a high temperature and to improve the safety of a battery by using a separation film as a thermal fuse. An electrode assembly(100) comprises a plurality of unit cells which are folded by a long sheet type separation film(400), wherein the unit cell has a separator(300) made of a material having a relatively high melting point which is interposed between a positive electrode(210) and a negative electrode(220), and the separation film is made of a material having a relatively low melting point. Preferably the separation film is uniaxially stretched in a longitudinal direction (folding direction); and the separation film and the separator comprise a polyolefin-based resin and have a melting point difference of 30 deg.C or more.
