A memory card input/output apparatus capable of simplifying the structure of a direction signal generated when a host controller controls a transmission direction for each of data signals. There are included a driver circuit (24) that outputs a data signal, which has been inputted from a host controller (1), to a memory card (3); a driver circuit (25) that outputs a data signal, which has been inputted from the memory card (3), to the host controller (1); a transmission direction control part (27) that switches directions of transmission of the data signals that are transmitted via two or more input/output terminals used in common to the input of data signals to the driver circuit (24) and the output of data signals from the driver circuit (25); and a mode register (29) that rewritably stores transmission direction information. The transmission direction control part (27) is adapted to switch, based on the transmission direction information and the direction signal from the host controller (1), the directions of transmission of the data signals.
