A masking system for masking of a crank chamber of an internal combustion engine is provided to prevent contamination caused due to metal steam during thermal coating of a cylinder bore. A masking system for masking a crank chamber(2) of an internal combustion engine(3) during surface treatment of cylinder running surfaces(4,41,42) of cylinder bores(5,51,52) of cylinders(6,61,62) of the internal combustion engine includes a hollow masking body(7) having a connector member(71) for connecting the hollow masking body to the cylinder bore and a screen segment(72). The hollow masking body is configured such that the connector member of the hollow masking body is positioned at cylinder bores(5,51) of first cylinders at the crank chamber side during surface treatment of first cylinders of the internal combustion engine.
