A location based service apparatus and a method thereof are provided to acquire position information or compensate position information acquired in other methods by selectively initializing the position information. A location based service apparatus includes a GPS(Global Position System) communication unit(20) or a sensor unit(10), an ultra-wide band communication unit(70), and a position information processing unit(30). The GPS communication unit or sensor unit acquires one or more kinds of position information. The ultra-wideband communication device receives position information provided in a fixed position in an ultra-wideband communication method. The position information processing unit processes the position information acquired through the GPS communication unit or sensor unit to determine a current position. The position information processing unit compensates the determined current position based on received position information in case that the position information is received through the ultra-wide band communication unit.
