#CMT# #/CMT# The device (10) has a switching unit e.g. electromagnetic relay type switch (11), for electrically connecting a voltage source e.g. battery (40), a power resistance (50), and an electrical machine i.e. direct-current motor starter (20), in series. Another switching unit e.g. electromagnetic relay type switch (12), is provided for short-circuiting the resistance. A control unit (13) activates the switching unit (11) to start the electrical machine, and activates the switching unit (12) in a predetermined situation. #CMT#USE : #/CMT# Device for controlling an electric machine i.e. direct-current motor starter, coupled to drive a crankshaft of an internal combustion engine of a motor vehicle. #CMT#ADVANTAGE : #/CMT# The switching unit e.g. electromagnetic relay type switch, electrically connects the voltage source, resistance and the electrical machine in series, thus limiting inrush current during operating voltage of the machine, and hence limiting voltage drop in the machine over an electrical network of the vehicle.
