The device has a large curtain guided along rails between a retracted position and an occulting position. A variable length crosspiece is formed of a female crosspiece and male crosspiece (32). The male crosspiece carries a variable length crosspiece`s end passing in one of the rails and mounted with respect to the female crosspiece. A balancing unit integrates the crosspiece (32) such that the crosspiece (32) is displaced symmetrically with respect to the female crosspiece. The unit has a gear unit comprising steering racks (41, 42) cooperating with a sprocket (43) integrated to the curtain.
