The method involves identifying an existence and textual contents of a panel by a camera (1), and resetting a value of distance during transit of a motor vehicle under the panel. Data e.g. remaining distance and time, relative to remaining drive, to reach a preset arrival point are calculated by a central logic controller (6) from the contents, traffic message channel (TMC), radio data system (RDS) TMC or global positioning system (GPS) type information and measured information e.g. vehicle`s traveled distance and speed, that are available at edge of the vehicle and obtained by a milometer. An independent claim is also included for a system for providing information of the traffic to a driver of a vehicle on a road network.
