The feeder has a feeding-trough that is provided in the form of a box that is made of assembled sheets and is open on a front face of the box. An enclosure is constituted by a front barrier and two lateral barriers, where the front and the lateral barriers are formed in form of tubes. The barriers comprise openings permitting a young animal to access the feeding-trough. One of the barriers has a configuration such that it forms a rigid cage (8) that encloses and protects the other barriers. The cage provides a space in which fragile elements are placed.
