EFFLUX PUMP FOR NEW QUINOLONE-BASED ANTIMICROBIAL AGENT

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To elucidate the cause of the quinolone-based antimicrobial resistance of E. coli strain C316 of new quinolone-based antimicrobial resistant E. coli and to develop a means for specifying a bacterium having such a quinolone-based antimicrobial resistance.

SOLUTION: The protein has activity of discharging a quinolone-based antimicrobial agent from bacterial cells. The nucleic acid has a base sequence encoding the protein. The method for detecting a bacterium having activity of discharging a quinolone-based antimicrobial agent from bacterial cells comprises subjecting a bacterial sample to be tested to a PCR reaction or a Southern blot hybridization method and detecting the presence of qep gene (SEQ ID NO: 1).
