PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a biaxially oriented polyester film for in-mold molding which is excellent in moldability, processability, glossiness of a molded article surface after transfer, and handling properties. SOLUTION: The biaxially oriented polyester film has at least two polyester film layers in which the square mean square root roughness RMS of a transfer surface is below 10 nm, and the square mean square root roughness RMS of a non-transfer surface is at least 10 nm and below 100 nm. The surface orientation coefficient of at least the transfer surface is 0.15 or below, the average of the elongation at break in the MD direction and the TD direction of the film is at least 180%, the thermal shrinkage percentage in the TD direction of the film when it is heated at 150°C for 30 min is 0.8% or below, and an antistatic layer satisfying the requirements of (1) the antistatic layer formed by a paint film layer containing polystyrenesulfonic acid and/or a polystyrenesulfonic acid derivative and (2) the surface resistivity of the surface of the antistatic layer is 1×10<SP>13</SP>Ω/square or below is provided on the non-transfer surface.
