PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve characteristics of moving picture display when a so-called area scanning drive system is employed. SOLUTION: One frame is divided into a first field and a second field; and scanning lines are selected in a predetermined order in each field. Display data representing an intermediate image between two images to be displayed in the consecutive N-th frame and (N+1)-th frame next to the N-th frame is generated by using display data of at least the N-th frame and (N+1)-th frame. In at least three fields in the four fields from the first field of the N-th frame to the second field of the (N+1)-th frame, the display data for pixels corresponding to the selected scanning lines are supplied in the order of display data for the N-th frame, display data for the intermediate image, and display data for the (N+1)-th frame.
