PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a projection type display device which is practical and is convenient-to-handle for a user by facilitating the removal of dust infiltrating into the inside of an optical engine with simple constitution. SOLUTION: The projection type display device is equipped with: panel parts (27, 32 and 40) modulating emitted light from a light source (16) according to a video signal; a projection lens (13) projecting the video light emitted from the panel parts (27, 32 and 40); and a main body (12) housing blowers (52 and 53) sending air for cooling the panel parts (27, 32 and 40), and a duct (44) guiding sent air from the blowers (52 and 53) to the panel parts (27, 32 and 40). The duct (44) is freely attached to/detached from the main body (12), and the panel parts (27, 32 and 40) are exposed to the outside when the duct (44) is detached from the main body (12).
