PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce cross-talk noise in a disk apparatus and a reproducing head. SOLUTION: The reproducing head has a first shield and a second shield of a magnetic material each having a length corresponding to two or more tracks in a track width direction, where a gap is formed between the shields in a direction substantially perpendicular to the tracks; and a magnetoresistance effect element arranged between the first and the second shields for detecting a magnetic field recorded in the track to be read where the element is moved on the track to be read. A surface facing the track to be read of the magnetic material of at least one of the first shield and the second shield is provided at a position closer to a disk medium than at least a portion of a surface facing the track adjacent to the track to be read of the material of the shield.
