PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an anodization method for forming an esthetic and white barrier film with excellent corrosion resistance on the surface of a magnesium material, without using a harmful substance to the environment in the process. SOLUTION: The method for treating the surface of the magnesium material or a magnesium product includes a step of anodizing the material or the product in an electrolytic solution containing water, 10 to 40 wt.% organic solvent and 0.15 to 0.5 mol/L sodium silicate, at a current density of 25 A/m<SP>2</SP>or more. Thereby formed film contains silicon, is white, and has a corrosion resistance which is several times higher than that formed through a conventional method. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
