The plate is made from a copper material. Its section corresponds with a development of the continuous casting mold to be manufactured. The wall thickness is 30-80 mm. It is then deformed by bending to the desired geometry, whilst maintaining the wall thickness. The required form is reached by first bending freely, then by bending (as opposed to forging) between upper and lower dies. It is deformed to a sidewall having the width of the casting mold. The wall includes a funnel-like enlargement or recess (2). The plate has the form or contour of the continuous casting surface for a beam blank (i.e. it has a blank beam cross section). Part of the plate is not designated for deformation. Before bending deformation, this part has elements of contour formed by cutting or non-cutting techniques. The plate is made from a non-precipitation-hardening copper alloy. It is alternatively made from a precipitation-hardening copper alloy. The equipment used, comprises upper and lower forging dies. At least one of the dies (1) is an assembly comprising a series of slices. These are forming segments (3-6), each shaped to form the desired final tool contour. An independent claim IS INCLUDED FOR corresponding equipment.
|
