The emitter has a rotary anode (25) and a cathode (26) provided in a vacuum container (28). The anode is filled with coolant (29) that is guided by a guiding plate (35) and flows against a front side of the anode. A focal spot (27) is provided on an outer side of the front side and the coolant takes up heat produced by the anode for releasing the heat to a Peltier element (36) during forward flow of the coolant. Electrical energy required for a cooling effect is supplied from portions of the emitter to the Peltier element through a contact ring (38).
