An apparatus and a method for power control in an image forming device are provided to detect whether to mount a PTB according to the connection state of the PTB by using a feedback signal for power supplied to the PTB and control power supplied to the PTB and an LSU according to whether the detected PTB is mounted, thereby price competitiveness and layout competitiveness by simplifying the configuration. A power control apparatus comprises a PTB(Paper Transfer Belt) unit(420), an LSU(Light Scanning Unit)(400), a first control unit(472), and a connection unit(490). The PTB unit transfers a developing latent image on a printing medium. The LSU scans light on a photosensitive medium. The first control unit controls power supplied to the PTB unit and the LSU. The connection unit connects the PTB unit and the first control unit. The first control unit controls the power supplied to the LSU according to the connection state of the connection unit.
