An animal waste collection device comprises an elongate handle and a pick-up and collection device disposed at the bottom end of the handle. The pick-up and collection device is adapted to receive a bag for receiving and storing animal waste collected by the animal waste collection device. The pick-up and collection device comprises an elongate base member fixed to the handle, and first and second opposed movable collection members connected to the elongate base member for movement between an open position whereat access is provided to the interior of the bag for collecting waste and a closed position whereat the interior of the bag is closed off to retain waste in the bag. An actuator assembly is at the top end of the handle. A linkage is connected at a first end to the actuator assembly and connected at a first end to the pick-up and collection device.
