PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a switching element drive circuit that can suppress a surge voltage that is generated when a switching element is turned off and can perform short-circuit protection by detecting a short-circuit state at an early stage. SOLUTION: The switching element drive circuit comprises a voltage-dividing circuit 13 which divides a voltage supplied between main electrodes of a non-latching switching element 11 having two main electrodes and one control electrode by a plurality of voltage-dividing elements 14a-14c, a control current source 16 which charges a current to the control electrode according to the divided voltage of main-voltage-detection voltage-dividing elements of the voltage-dividing elements 14a-14c of the voltage-dividing circuit 13, and a voltage dividing ratio control circuit 20 which adjusts the voltage-dividing ratio of the main-voltage-detection voltage-dividing elements 14b, 14c of the voltage-dividing circuit 13 according to a control signal for controlling the switching element 11.
