PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an illuminator improved to prevent the apex part of a conical prism from being cracked and chipped and to easily reduce the manufacture cost of the conical prism while maintaining the light uniformizing function of the conical prism. SOLUTION: The illuminator 100 is equipped with an LD light source 10, and the conical prism 20 arranged so that its top part 22 may be positioned on a light incident side and changing light from the LD light source 10 to light having more uniform intensity distribution. The top part 22 of the conical prism 20 has shape that the apex part is cut to be nearly plane, and a convex lens 24 functioning as a micro optical element having a function for refracting the light from the LD light source 10 and making it incident on the conical prism 20 at a predetermined angle is arranged near the light incident side on the top part 22.
