The present invention relates to a method of treating a gastrointestinal motility disorder in subject in need of such treatment comprising coadministering an effective amount of a 5-HT₃ receptor agonist or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate, or solvate thereof and an effective amount of a GABA receptor agonist or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate or solvate thereof. Preferably, the subject is a human. The invention is also directed to a method of increasing esophageal motility in a subject in need thereof comprising coadministering to said subject an effective amount of a 5-HT₃ receptor agonist or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate, or solvate thereof and an effective amount of a GABA receptor agonist or a pharmaceutically acceptable salt, hydrate, or solvate thereof.
