PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for specifying the hooking position of a power cable to a projection in a hoistway of an elevator in which a car is stopped by the control to a long-period vibration caused by an earthquake or wind, any hooking of a power cable is detected, and the hooking position of the power cable to the projection in the hoistway is specified. SOLUTION: There are provided a recognition means 20 of the car stop position, a mass checking means 21 for capturing the change in a suspended mass caused by the hooking of a power cable 5 to a projection in a hoistway, a normal value recording means 22 for recording the normal value in advance, and a determination-specification means. The difference between the measurement value of the mass checking means 21 and the value stored in the normal value recording means 22 is divided by the unit mass to calculate the loss for the power cable length, and the calculated value is added to a distance between a lower end of the power cable at the car stop position and a hoistway pit floor to specify the hooking position of the power cable.
