PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a patterned medium capable of recording/reproducing data with an existing HDD recording system without performing a synchronized recording for its strength to fluctuations in writing timing. SOLUTION: The patterned magnetic recording medium is provided with: a substrate; and a recording layer formed on the substrate, having a plurality of sides with planar shapes inclined in a down track direction, a first width part of a cross track direction, and a second width part smaller than the first width part of the cross track direction, and including recording bits constituting projecting patterns.
