PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a gluing device with a gluing roll, which makes a heretofore known device essentially increase the speed of a doctor blade driving mechanism, while maintaining a dedicated operation via control, and which additionally enables the gluing device and the doctor blade driving mechanism to be easily engaged with and disengaged from each other. SOLUTION: This gluing device 1, which is composed of a tub 3 including a liquid adhesive 8, absorbs the adhesive 8 into the tub, and applies the adhesive 8 to a spine 20 of contents 21 of a book. The gluing roll 6, which is driven in the same direction as that of the contents 21 of the book, is immersed in the tub 3. The doctor blade 5, which sets the thickness of an adhesive film to be applied to the spine 20, by a changeable interval s from the gluing roll 6, is annexed to the gluing roll, above an adhesive level in the tub 3. The gluing device 1 applies the adhesive 8 to the spine 20 of the contents 21 of the book composed of collated sheets of printed paper guided in a transfer direction, or the area adjacent to the spine. An operation mechanism 10 for the doctor blade is connected to a control cam 14 which is connected to a motor 2 so as to be driven by it while complementing a shape. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
