PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a token counting machine capable of automatically releasing a token jam and of reproducing reliability of an action to separate a token for a gate member 36 after the token jam is released. SOLUTION: A gap 60 for allowing a token to pass through in a thickness direction is provided between the gate member 36 in a regulatory position and a rotary disc 32. A jam sensing means senses the token jam between the disc 32 and the member 36. When the token jam is sensed, the member 36 is forced to shift by a gate member drive mechanism 38 to an open position in which the gap 60 between the member 36 and the disc 32 spreads out to relieve the biting of the token. In a state that biting of the token is relieved, reversely rotating the disc 32 automatically releases the token jam even when the token is strongly bitten. After the token jam is released, the member 36 is forced to shift by the mechanism 38 to the regulatory position and the reverse rotation of the disc 32 is ceased. COPYRIGHT: (C)2008,JPO&INPIT
