An electronically controllable brake system, which includes an electronic controller for actuating electrohydraulic components of the brake system, is filled with hydraulic fluid in such a fashion that basically any possibly remaining air bubbles in the interior of the hydraulic components are eliminated, wherein filling sequences are performed according to a predetermined filling profile. For improving the process of bleeding or the original filling operation, on-board sensory means for detecting a brake system pressure (driver pilot pressure) are used to identify a defined pressure time course (filling profile), and the electrohydraulic components of the brake system are actuated by the electronic controller, if required, in conformity with the identified filling profile. By this means, an external electronic diagnosis connection for executing a filling or bleeding process is rendered obsolete.
