An internal combustion engine is provided to prevent a protruding sealing section from being separated or loosened even when the internal pressure of a cam chain chamber is applied to the protruding sealing section. An internal combustion engine includes a cam drive sprocket(91), a cam driven sprocket(92), a cam chain chamber(94), and a breather chamber(101). The cam drive sprocket is installed in a crank shaft rotatably supported by a crank case. The cam driven sprocket is installed in a cam shaft rotatably supported by a cylinder head coupled to the crank case through a cylinder block. The cam chain chamber travels an endless cam chain wound around the cam drive sprocket and the cam driven sprocket and extends from a crank case to the cylinder head via the cylinder block. The breather chamber is communicated with an upper portion of the crank case of the chain chamber and is formed in the crank case.
