<P>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a recording/reproducing method and a method of recording video and audio signals capable of recording high-definition video images and high-quality audio signals in digitized video and audio signals. <P>SOLUTION: In this recording/reproducing apparatus, a first detector (40) detects that an inputted digital signal is TS or Partial-TS. When the first detector detects that an inputted digital signal is TS or Partial-TS, a second detector (40) acquires an NIT (network information table) as information about a supply source included in description contents of a network identification descriptor in an SIT, or a digital signal stream to detect whether stream recording is possible.
