PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a method for producing a polyimide film which reduces the strong orientation anisotropy in the diagonal direction in the end part in the width direction in particular of the polyimide film obtained continuously. SOLUTION: Attention is turned to the distortion of the film and the propagation of stress in the MD direction. The relationship of the tensile modulus elasticity of each of a gel film, a tenter heating first furnace, and a second furnace is obtained. The anisotropy of the film is reduced by controlling conditions selected from tension to the gel film, the highest temperature, and the residual solvent percentage of the gel film.
